Friends of Catholic Education hosted the annual John
McElroy Award ceremony recently. Members of area Catholic schools and
parishes gathered to honor this year's recipient of the award, George R.
Houston, recently retired President of Mount St. Mary College and Seminary in
Emmitsburg.

Opening remarks were given by David M. Grove,
President of Friends of Catholic Education
Keynote
Speaker for the evening was Daniel Curtin,
Executive Director the National Catholic Education Association.
Dr.
Carol Hinds, Provost from Mount St. Mary's,
delivered special remarks.
The
McElroy Award was presented to Mr. Houston
by FOCE Board member, William J. Mohan
Another
"award" was presented by Caroline Pugh, FOCE Executive Director.
Ms. Pugh explained this was a tool to help Mr. Houston navigate
the waters of his future journeys.
