Amy Florian
is a liturgy and bereavement consultant and
the executive director of Stauros USA. She has authored articles in
numerous publications, is a regular columnist for Liturgical Catechesis,
and has published two books (Sign
& Symbol, Word & Song with Ave Maria Press and The Mass: An
Invitation to Enjoy It with ACTA Publications). Amy conducts workshops,
missions, and training sessions on the regional and national levels.

Bobby
Fisher is a liturgical
musician, composer, author, actor and clinician. Bobby has served as
program coordinator for the National Pastoral Musicians Guitar Schools
since 1988 and he travels extensively as a presenter of liturgical
musician workshops.
Bobby is the author of several books and
tapes designed specifically for liturgical guitarists, as well as
collections for liturgy and for children. He also performs liturgical
music concerts for all ages and has performed with The Fountain Square
Fools, a portable Christian theatre company that travels throughout the
United States and Canada.
Bobby majored in classical guitar and
music theory at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of
Cincinnati. Currently, he’s the Director of Pastoral Musicians at St.
Agnes Parish in Fort Wright, Kentucky. He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with
his wife, Tarri, and their two children. [Click

Things to Come
Mr. Daniel S. Mulhall
What does the future hold for catechetical ministry?
Mr. Mulhall will offer his vision of what is to come, including further
implementation of the pastoral plan, Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us,
the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and the upcoming National
Directory for Catechesis. Lively conversation on the implications
will be encouraged.

Daniel S. Mulhall is
the Asst. Sec. for Catechesis and Inculturation for the US
Conference of Catholic Bishops, Department of Education, a position he has
held for more than five years. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, he
currently lives in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and is a parishioner of
St. Francis of Assisi parish in Fulton. Mr. Mulhall holds a MA in
Theology from the Catholic University of American and MA in Adult Christian
Community Development from Regis University, Denver. He has served
in catechetical ministry for more that 25 years, working primarily in
adult faith formation. He and his wife, Kathleen, have been married
for 23 years and they have three children.

Why do kids do what they do? Come and explore some
motivations behind problem behavior and learn strategies to prevent
problems and how to respond when they arise. These techniques are
effective for ALL ages.

Christine Barthold is Coordinator of
Catechesis for Persons with Developmental Disabilities with the
Archdiocese of Baltimore's Division of Evangelization and Catechesis. In addition, she is completing her Ph.D. at
the University
of Maryland, specializing in severe disabilities /autism. She has
over nine years' experience in the field of behavior management and is one
of 15 Board Certified Behavior Analysts in the State of Maryland.

Bringing the Creed Alive for Ourselves and Others

Each Sunday, we recite the Creed. We profess belief in the
central mystery of our faith, the Trinity. Has this become a rote action?
The session will address the questions: (1) What does it mean to say 'I
believe in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit', and how do we live our
belief in this mystery? (2) How can we help those we catechize to do the
same?

Mrs. Marie Kordes has
been active in the field of catechesis for over 30 years. After
ministering as a parish DRE for 20 years, Marie now serves as a consultant
to and on the faculty of the Trinity College, Education for Paris Services
(EPS) Program in Washington D.C and Northern Virginia. She has served on
committees for the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership (NCCL)
and the North American Forum on the Catechumenate, as Consultant for both
the Sadlier and Harcourt Publishers and has been a presenter at numerous
parish and diocesan conferences. Most recently she has been co-authoring a
book, The Baptismal Catechumenate as Inspiration for all Catechesis: An
Invitation to Exploration, to be published by NCCL and the North American
Forum. She earned a M.A. in Religious Studies from the Catholic
University of America and a B.S. in Education from the Ohio State
University. Marie is married, a mother and grandmother.

Adolescent Spirituality
Dr. Patty McCulloch
Beyond stating the obvious, that young people have a spiritual
life, this workshop offers real life approaches to help today's teens develop
their connection with God. Just as adult prayer lives vary, so do our
teenagers'. We will discuss reflective techniques and tools, and consider
what our young people learn from just being around us.

Patty McCulloch is the Campus Minister at
Notre Dame Preparatory School in Baltimore. A recent recipient of a
doctorate in the Spiritual life of teenage girls, Patty has also authored books
on prayer and meditation. Besides working with teens in parish and school
settings, which she has done for 21 years, Patty fills her time with writing,
hiking in the Colorado Mountains and enjoying a good cup of coffee with friends.

Ryn is the RCL Sales Representative for the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
Prior to joining the RCL family Joanne spent 32 years in Catholic
education as a school and religious ed teacher, a parish DRE, and a
Director of Parish Services. She presently teaches Sacramental
Theology in the Philadelphia Archdiocesan Church Ministry Program and has
taught undergraduate theology in various Catholic colleges in
Philadelphia. Joanne is a mother of 4 and a grandmother of 7. She
resides in Hainesport, NJ.

Rev. J. Daniel Mindling has been
Academic Dean of Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg since 1993.
Fr. Mindling also serves as consultant
to the Maryland Catholic Conference; is on the Ethics Committee of Holy
Spirit Hospital; and has been appointed by the Governor of Maryland to the
state advisory commission on quality care at the end of life. A
professor in moral theology, Fr. Mindling has taught bioethics for the past 16
years.

Loyes Spayd has
over 25
years experience in catechesis. She has worked as Director of Religious
Education in 3 parishes and has served on 3 diocesan staffs. She is
presently Pastoral Life Director for St. Rita Parish in Baltimore. She holds a Bachelor's degree in English from
Brown University and a Master's degree in Religious Education from the
Catholic University of America. A member of the National Association of
Catholic Family Life Ministers, Loyes was a National Catholic Education
Association (NCEA) scholar for two years and is a frequent presenter at
catechetical conferences. She has written articles for Catechumenate,
Living Light and Momentum. She is one of the writers and
presenters of the National Conference of Catechetical Leaders (NCCL),
"Empowering Catechetical Leaders," and the author of Forming
Ministerial Relationships, a booklet in the series of The Effective DRE: A Skill Development Series, published by NCCL and Loyola Press.

Brenda McCartney has been an educator
for more than 30 years working in areas where a high percentage of
students come from generational poverty backgrounds. She has served as
assistant superintendent for the Garrett County Public Schools for the
last five years. Dr. Ruby Payne’s work in understanding poverty and its
implications for education has been of great interest to Brenda and has
impacted her work with students, teachers, parents and administrators.
Following training sessions with Dr. Payne, Brenda has found it to be both
personally and professionally rewarding to share her understanding of
poverty and its implications with school educators and catechists.

Music Ministry, Beyond Technique

As musicians, we are called to excellence by developing our skills and
technique. However as music ministers we are called to move beyond technique
alone and to "let the Word be alive in us" through our music. As we sing, play,
and pray together this morning, we will take a deeper look at our role as a
people of prayer, called to support the sung prayer of a diverse assembly.

10 Creating and
Celebrating Meaningful Rituals with Children and Youth
Ms. Amy Florian
Catechetical settings provide an ideal place for faith rituals with
children and youth, yet many catechists feel inadequate to
prepare and celebrate them. This practical presentation defines ritual
and symbol in understandable ways and connects them to family and daily
life. Guidelines, tools, and actual examples will equip you
for effective and prayerful rituals in your classroom, your home, formation sessions,
and other situations.

Prayer with Adults

We will explore the variety of prayer styles that can be used
with adults as part of meetings and other formation activities. How

include practical suggestions for presiding at prayer services.

Pat Lawlor is the Pastoral Associate for
Adult Education at St. Rose of Lima parish in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She
holds a a masters degree in Theology from St. Michael College in Vermont.
Her ministry has taken her to several parishes in upstate New York. She
has served as a consultant for the Diocese of Rochester and as Associate
Director of Catechesis for the Diocese of Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Mother of God: The First Disciple

Mary was an ordinary woman whose response to God allowed a
new creation to take place in her that would bring Christ into this world. She
was, in many ways, the first disciple. We are ordinary people who
are daily called to discipleship. Like Mary, we are called to make a faith
response to God's presence and call in our life. As we consider Mary's journey
of faith, we will be inspired for our own.

scripture stories: Women of the Bible
Ms. Gloria Rink
The power of storytelling for all ages comes alive in this
workshop as you learn how to craft stories about women in the Bible.
Yes, we know about David, but what about Abigail and Bathsheba? We
know about Paul, but what about Lydia and Pricilla? We know about
Peter, but what about Dorcus? Learn how to make the scriptures come
alive to your students of all ages using scripture, crafting, drama and
costumes.

Gloria Rink, the founder and director of
Women of the Bible, Alive has been the Coordinator of Religious Education
at St. Joseph's Monastery Parish in Baltimore for the past 13 years.
She crafted 18 stories of women in the Bible and formed a troupe of 23
women who present these stories. This fall begins Women of the
Bible, Alive's fifth season. Having given 140 presentations in five
states to many different denominations, this non-profit organization of
energetic women has donated $10,000 to women and children's charities.
Gloria has been in religious education for 35 years and understands the
power of a story in teaching the word of God. Her stories show God's
love and care for women, yesterday, today and forever.

The distinct qualities of Catholicism are the same things
that make a school Catholic. We will look at elements of Catholic identity
and how to implement them in your school. We will also discuss the
Vatican Congregation for Catholic Education’s document, The Catholic

Alice Hession is currently the
Director of Formation in the national office of the Xaverian Brothers
Sponsored Schools where she facilitates spiritual formation activities for
faculty and students in the twelve high schools sponsored by the Xaverian
Brothers. With an extensive background in Religious Education and
RCIA, Ms. Hession was also the founding principal of Catholic High School
in Huntsville, Alabama. She is a graduate of Purdue University,
holds a Masters in Religious Education from St. Meinrad School of Theology
and and Educational Specialist degree from Spalding University.

J. Michael McMahon is
President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of
Pastoral Musicians (NPM), an organization of more than nine thousand
mostly Roman musicians, clergy and other leaders of worship dedicated to
fostering the art of musical liturgy in Catholic parishes. For
twenty-five years Dr. McMahon served as a full-time director of music and
liturgy for churches in Virginia and Delaware. He has taught
sacramental and liturgical theology at Catholic University, Washington
Theological Union and Georgetown University and has traveled widely to
speak on musical and liturgical issues. His publishing credits include
new books on Christian initiation and on the role of music in the General
Instruction of the Roman Missal. He has contributed articles to several
different journals, as well as regular contributions to Celebration, of
which he is music editor.

As liturgical ensemble musicians and singers, how do we best blend our
voices and instruments with the voice of the assembly? How do we blend
instruments and sometimes voices to support ritual action? As directors how do
we incorporate instruments such as viola, clarinet, and saxophone, which don't
always have parts readily available? Come both to learn and share ideas.
